Kang Dong Won Has Now Decided On His Next Movie

6/22/06 – Kang Dong Won will costar with Kim Nam Joo and Sul Kyung Goo in the movie “His Voice (그놈 목소리)”. The movie, based on the true story of “Year 1991 Lee Hyung Ho Abduction Event (1991년 이형호 유괴사건)”, portrays that a couple played by SKG and KNJ go through miserable 44 days during which they are threatened a ransom by the person who kidnapped their son.

KDW plays “the person”, the intelligent abductor whose identity is entirely unknown. His role confronts the character Han Kyung Bae (한경배, played by SKG), the father of the child who he kidnapped, by voices. Without any guilty feeling, “the person” bargains the ransom by calm and well-educated tone in English on the phone. Some scenes show KDW’s silhouette with his voice.

For this movie, KDW has changed his hair style to a long one. Also, he listens to tapes containing actual kidnapper’s voices and analyzes them. The filming is scheduled early July, and the debut will be in winter. KDW’s recent movies include “Duelists” and “Our Happy Time (우리들의 행복한 시간)” costarring with Lee Na Young.

He played a silent killer with sad eyes in 형사 Duelist, a convicted murderer in the upcoming 우리들의 행복한 시간 (Maundy Thursday), and now a kidnapper. Is Kang Dong-Won in a bad mood or something? After adding recently-married Kim Nam-Joo to the initial casting of Seol Kyung-Gu, Park Jin-Pyo's upcoming 그놈의 목소리 (His Voice) just added another piece to the puzzle, as Kang will play said kidnapper. The role is interesting, as only his 'silhouette' and voice will appear in the film, a sort of low-key, more commercial version of 살인의 추억 (Memories of Murder), based on the 1991 Lee Hyung-Ho kidnapping case. So now we have the full picture: Seol is playing the father of the kid, Kim Nam-Joo the mother, and Kang plays 'him' (The 놈 of the title). Now all that's left is casting the kid -- please, not Lee Jae-Eung AGAIN, uh? -- and the film will finally start shooting in early July, for a Winter release.

Our Happy Time = Maundy Thursday, It's Teaser Poster!

The official english title of Kang Dong Won lastest movie that is wrapped it's filming is now Maundy Thursday, not anymore called "Our Happy Time" in English.

If you don't get what Maundy Thursday means ... Here is info to enlighten you up :

Maundy Thusday is the Thursday before Easter.
Christians remember it as the day of the Last Supper, when Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and established the ceremony known as the Eucharist.
The night of Maundy Thursday is the night on which Jesus was betrayed by Judas in the Garden of Gethsemane.
The word "maundy" comes from the command given by Christ at the Last Supper, that we should love one another.
In Roman Catholic churches the anthem “Mandatum novum do vobis” (“a new commandment I give to you”) would be sung on Maundy Thursday.
In many other countries this day is known as Holy Thursday.

Kang Dong Won Japan Fan Meeting

Actor Kang Dong-won Receives Favorable Response from Japanese News Media






Japanese news media outlets have given a favorable response to actor Kang Dong-won, calling him a new hallyu star who will succeed to the level of top star Bae Yong-joon.

The Japanese daily Sankei Sports said on May 2, "Kang Dong-won successfully wrapped up his fan meeting held in Japan on May 1 in celebration of the publication of his photo album. Kang is one of the top four new-generation hallyu stars alongside Lee Dong-kun, who made headlines for his role in the TV drama 'Lovers in Paris'; Cho In-sung, who has drawn a group of enthusiastic fans for his role in the TV drama 'The Bali Story'; and Ji Sung, who became familiar to fans for his role in the TV drama 'All-In.'"

The Japanese daily also said, "Kang debuted in 2003 and won attention for his role in the TV drama '1% of Something.' He also won high popularity in Japan for his acting in the film entitled 'Romance of Their Own.'"

The daily added, "Currently, the film 'Duelist' starring Kang Dong-won is gaining popularity in Japan. His photo album has sold a total of 13,000 copies so far. In Korea, Kang tops all polls in the question category 'Which actor would you like to have as your boyfriend?' surpassing all top Korean stars including Bae Yong-joon."

The event held in Tokyo on May 1 in celebration of the publication of Kang's photo album was attended by about 4,000 Japanese fans, demonstrating the high popularity Kang is enjoying in Japan.

言葉を交わさなくても、ひかれあってしまう男と女がいる


心のなかの言葉を
眼差しに込めたかった

「目がきれいですね」
　撮影中にカメラマンがそう水を向けると、端正な顔がはにかんだ。186センチの長身に、すらりと伸びた腕と脚。９頭身、いや10頭身にも見える抜群のスタイルとしなやかな立ち居振る舞いには、圧倒的な存在感がある。
　デビューから３年。一気にトップスターに躍り出た、韓国で若手としては最も人気がある俳優である。とくに女性たちからの視線が熱い。いまや日本での人気も韓流四天王に並ぶほどだが、ファン層は20代から30代の女性が中心だ。
　カン・ドンウォンの魅力は、「花美男」（コンミナム＝美男子）としてばかりではない。何よりも、演技力が問われる韓国芸能界にあって、着実に役者としての力をつけてきたことだ。2004年秋に主演映画『オオカミの誘惑』で来日したときは、まだ少年のあどけなさと純朴さを残していたが、最近はぐんと精悍な顔つきとなり、大人の男の落ち着きも感じさせる。
　そんな彼が新たな魅力を存分に見せるのが、３作目の主演映画『デュエリスト』だ。
「時代劇であるにもかかわらず、非常にモダンな作品です。さまざまな見方ができて、観るたびに違う面が見えてくるはずですよ。これまで僕は、自分の出演作は、観るのがつらくて１回しか観てないんですが、この『デュエリスト』は３回も観てしまいました」
　インタビューでは長身を屈めてソファに座ると、身を乗り出して真剣な眼差しで語り出す。口数は多くはないものの、答えをしばらく考えては、自分の言葉を探そうとしている。
　デュエリストとは、決闘者・対決者の意味。スタイリッシュな映像で知られるイ・ミョンセ監督が、独創的な映像と色彩美で見せる新感覚の時代劇だ。カン・ドンウォンの役は、剣の達人で悲しい目をした刺客。これまでは田舎の純朴な青年、快活な高校生番長と、母性本能をくすぐるかわいげある役を演じてきたが、今回は妖しく、美しく、せつない。ドラマ『チェオクの剣』などで人気の女優ハ・ジウォンが演じる女刑事との息をのむ対決、宿敵同士の許されざる愛が物語の軸となり、見る者の心を揺さぶる。
　カン・ドンウォンは見事な剣さばきと剣舞を見せるが、クランクイン前に、６カ月に及ぶ、武芸とダンスの訓練を積んだ。撮影では激しいアクションにもスタントを使わなかった。
「自分の感情を、自分の体を動かすことで表現したかったんです。スタントの方のほうがうまくできたかもしれないけれど、それは僕の感情ではないということで欲を出しちゃいました。撮影中は、つらいというより、とても幸せでしたね。監督はもとより、共演のアン・ソンギさん、ハ・ジウォンさん、素晴らしいスタッフの方々から多くのことを学べましたから。僕の役者人生のなかで、一生涯、記憶に残る作品です」
　彼のセリフが極端に少なく、目の表情だけで感情を表しているのも、見どころのひとつだ。イ・ミョンセ監督は、目で内面を表現できる俳優としてカン・ドンウォンを抜擢したそうだが、期待どおりの演技だと撮影後に高く評価した。
「自分のセリフがないもどかしさはすごくあったんです。でも、心のなかの言葉を眼差しに込めようと努力しました。映画のなかでは説明されていない主人公の生い立ちや、アイデンティティーも目で語れればいいな、と」
　撮影現場での集中力には定評がある。どのように精神を集中させて、感情移入をしているのか。しかし、恥ずかしそうに照れて頭をかく。
「難しいですねぇ、感情移入させるのって。現場では、なかなかうまくできないんですよ。それが僕の宿題です。まぁ、これから少しずつ、よくなっていくだろうとは思うのですが……」



楽しめれば一生懸命に
なれる――仕事も恋愛も



　映画では、言葉を交わさなくても互いに見つめあったとたん、どうしようもなくひかれあっていく男女の愛を描いている。ひとめ見ただけで恋に落ちてしまう、その気持ちは理解できるか、とたずねると大きくうなずいた。
「十分に共感できますね。見たとたん、相手がわかる、僕もそういうタイプの人間ですから。実際に、ひとめ見ただけでひかれてしまう、そういった経験は僕自身にもあります」
　映画のなかで彼がひかれる女性は、男まさりでワイルドなキャラクターである。
「僕はどちらかというと、自分に似た人にひかれますね。まず、自分の仕事にとても熱心な女性が好きです。でも正直言って、劇中のハ・ジウォンさんが演じたキャラクターはタイプじゃありません。だって、飲み屋でうかつなことを言えば、トックリで頭をかち割られてしまいそうじゃないですか（笑）。ああいう激しい性格の女性は、実際には大変でしょう。僕は自分の世界をしっかりと持った女性が好きです」
　彼自身の仕事への熱意がうかがえる言葉だ。そんな彼が俳優として最も大事にしていることは何だろうか。即座にこう答えてきた。
「役者としてだけでなく、生きていくうえでも重要だと思うのは、何事も楽しんでやることだと思います。楽しめれば、一生懸命にもなれるし、いい結果も出てくると思うんですよね」
　何事も前向きにとらえる。が、そう簡単にできることでもない。かくいうカン・ドンウォン自身もシャイで、かつては人見知りが激しく、人前で口をきくのもつらかった、という。
「（仕事を始めて）自分の性格をずいぶんと変えてきました。前は自分から歩み寄っていくことができない性格だったんですけど、楽しめるよう、努力してきました。ささいなことなのですが、自分なりにいろいろと心がけてきましたね」
　韓流の俳優たちを取材して感じる共通点は、いい役者になる以前に人間としていい生き方をしなければならないという思いが強いことだ。カン・ドンウォンもまた然りである。
　撮影を終えると、のどが渇いたと自ら部屋の冷蔵庫を開けてドリンクを探しつつ、「何かお飲みになりませんか？」。周囲への気づかいも忘れない。ふだんは気取らず、スター然としたところがまったくない。こんな謙虚さも彼の魅力だ。
　撮影中の次作『僕たちの幸福な時間』（原題）では、３人を殺（あや）めた死刑囚役に挑んでいる。『デュエリスト』で得た演技への自信をどう進化させていくか。これからの韓国映画界を担っていますねと告げると、大きく息を吸い込み、「一生懸命、がんばります！」。いい笑顔を見せた。

*NEW* Kang Dong Won International Forum

I just want to share a project i'm doing right now, i have registered an account at Forumer.com. I'm now working on a forum for Kang Dong Won. That forum will be in English, and why it's an International Forum, because by using English, i hope that his fans from all over the world will come, join, and together we support Kang Dong Won.

He hasn't have a forum in English, so i just started one. I hope fans can support me and the forum.
